Description:

This cartoon appeared in the original March broadcast of the SNL episode, but was cut from the summer rerun. SNL producer Lorne Michaels told the New York Daily News he "didn't think it worked comedically." In an interview, Harry Shearer said "The truth is that Lorne wanted to continue working at 30 Rock." http://snltranscripts.jt.org/97/97pfunhouse.phtml Schoolroom Rocky's back on the block With Conspiracy Theory Rock It's a media-opoly. A media-opoly. The whole media's controlled by a few corporations. Thanks to deregulation by the FCC. You mean Disney, Fox, Westinghouse and good ol' GE? They own networks from CBS to CNBC. They can use them to say whatever they please And put down the opinions of anyone who disagrees. Or stuff about PCBs What are PCBs? They come from electric power plants built by Westinghouse and GE. They can give you lots of cancer That can hurt your body But on network TV You'll rarely hear anything bad about the nuclear industry Like when Westinghouse was sued for fraud? Which time? When GE made defective bolts it was an unreported crime Or when it was boycotted for operating nuclear bomb plants just to squeeze a dime... That's a footnote, by the way. A footnote protects you from folks who doubt what you say. Now maybe the voices in my head will go away. But the bigshots don't care. They're all sitting pretty thanks to corporate welfare. What's that now? They get billions in subsidies from the government. It's supposed to create jobs but that's not how it's spent. They use PACs and soft money to support Congressmen Who will vote for weapons programs again and again And let them dump toxic waste where the young ones play. I hear GE made the bullets that shot JFK. You contribute to this chain Every time you buy a product Sponsored on this show. That's what NBC doesn't want you to know. So the next time 'Please stand by' 'Please stand by' It means there's technical difficulty Supposedly So if you see A 'Please Stand By' You'll know it's all part of GE's big lie. Why'd they take Norm MacDonald away? Because he made too many jokes about O.J.. But Lorne Michaels overruled. Now don't be fooled. He and Marion Barry went to the same high school.

Excuse me, but you fail to realize that the government also gets bigger because we let these corporations and the so-called "free" market decide who gets on tv, who and what gets air time because we let private companies decide these matters. This is caused when the government fails to regulate the media market like it should. Um, there are monopolies in the internet - Google and YouTube, it read up - GOOGLE it.

Monopolies cannot exist in a free market. It was because of big money from the government that let these things develop, not some "deregulation"

lol, excuse me, but its was government, money, control and guidelines that caused these big corporations to develop in the first place. In a true free market where competition flourishs and governments aren't involved, prices would go down and quality goes up. The internet is pretty unregulated right now, yet where are the monopolies at? Monopolies CANNOT exist in a true market. It may be hard for you to believe, but its true.

I can't see how you agree with this video and support a wholly free market i.e. laissez faire capitalism that libertarians like Ron Paul want. The whole point of the video was to show how government deregulation causes monopolies, just like it did at the beginning of the 20th century with Rockefeller and others. This stuff NEEDS to be regulated by the government, otherwise these corporations will control government.

Um, Ron Paul is for all sorts of corporate deregulation by government, the same kind that lead to all the bad stuff mentioned in this video. Ron Paul supporters are so blind, sometimes.
