For me this seems slightly more entertaining than Gould, although they are both perfect masters, or easier to appreciate by its particular charactor. Cannot think of an explanation, unless it is the accoustics of Palladio's room design. House dates about 1575 or thereabout, and must be known for these qualities ?

I htink this interpretation is among the best of this suite. I have a hard time with comments that say this interpretation is boring and mechanic! I hear beautiful touch delicacies, contrasts and well thought interpretational ideas all along the piece. The rythm is absolutely perfect, and I love the almost inhuman preciseness of Pogo's rythm. It's also very interesting how on the other hand he deconstructs rythm in other interpretations (like Beethoven's 111)

Loved this!! So much excitiement! Someone said he was going through cadences like a toll booth? Well, that's really the Baroque style. You're not supposed to have a big hiatus at cadences like in music of later eras. Perpetual motion, baby! Someone said he arbitrarily pounded notes--really he was simply bringing out lines. It is not too fast. Spending too much time with lesser pianists simply slows down one's capacity to hear.

No we dont play the piano to do that. But if you have a prodigious technique like Ivo and can do it why not? If thats how he interprets a piece I think its cool to be different and this is what has got him somewhere in this cutthoart industry

I am not fond of this interpretation. It is not the speed that bothers me but the sensitivity, especially during the cadences- he went through them like a toll booth. I think the piece demands a heavy touch in some areas, but at times he seemed to arbitrarily pound notes which didn't call for the intensity.

Many people here seem to consider this performance dry, unemotional, too fast, etc. I cant help noticing the wonderfully fierce character and dynamic aliveness of his playing; he´s not afraid to throw in a few sforzandi or dynamic outbursts to create a feeling of drama. The slower, more sarabande-like performance people seem to demand from this piece would be like hearing Richard III offering his kingdom for a horse while being in a hammock with half-closed eyelids and a straw in his mouth.

It doesn't matter here if you are actually able to play a piece at a fantastic speed, you need to slow down and see what the right time is for a correct interpretation of the piece.
