burtwiseman ::: Favorites 2008-01-13 08:45:33 vravni; First of all Carnera was 6ft.5 3/4 inch and wt. 270, Baer was 6ft.2 1/2 inch and wt. around 206. Cinderella Man was a real phony movie as they portrayed Baer as a villian. In reality Baer was a great guy, who never bad mouthed anyone. He was a entertainer who played to the crowd. __________________________________________________
yravni ::: Favorites 2008-01-12 22:18:19 It's kind of strange in the movie Cinderella man Max Baer appears to be quite large in relation to J.Braddock, but here he appears puny compared to Carnera __________________________________________________
yravni ::: Favorites 2008-01-12 22:14:41 Even in the movie Cinderella man, Carnera is portrayed as an Incredible Hulk like figure, much similar to those WWF wrestlers __________________________________________________
yravni ::: Favorites 2008-01-12 22:10:59 The movie Cinderella man was kind of biased towards the English people because J.Braddock was of Irish origin, the biographer who interviewed Braddock in the change room was not Greek, Italian, German nor Jewish(as Baer was)but Engish speaking __________________________________________________
helltopo ::: Favorites 2008-01-03 04:33:48 I thought that too burtwiseman, but there's nothing in U.S law which allows him to take Howard on in court. You can say what you like about the deaad and get away with it - amazing but true. I'm not a big Baer fan, but the fabrications in the movie made me really angry - especially how they had him gloating over the death of Campbell. __________________________________________________
burtwiseman ::: Favorites 2008-01-01 19:58:09 Helltopo: Im surprised Baer Jr. did not take Ron Howard to court for the false portrayal of Baer in that stupid movie CINDERELLA MAN. I guess that's why it failed at the box office. Go to maxbaerdotorg for the real story of Baer. __________________________________________________
helltopo ::: Favorites 2008-01-01 15:58:45 burtwiseman, I agree that Baer was way too old to be in that movie as was Braddock, but I haven't read anywhere that it was a factor in his early death. Its odd that Baer like Carnera has had his reputation sullied by Hollywood. He was not the monstter Ron Howard made him look in 'Cinderella Man'. __________________________________________________
burtwiseman ::: Favorites 2007-12-30 23:03:08 Scottin: It's funny how everyone refered to Carnera as a giant. He was only 6ft.5 1/2 inch. Im 6ft. 4 inch. im not a giant. I guess back in those days anyone over 6Ft. was considered tall. __________________________________________________
burtwiseman ::: Favorites 2007-12-30 23:00:52 helltopo: I absolutely agree with your comments of HARDER THEY FALL. You could be right about Carnera's fights, but I do not think so. You know that Baer should not have been in the film as he was too old. I think that role caused his early death. __________________________________________________
helltopo ::: Favorites 2007-12-30 17:43:36 I'm not saying he was a 'good' fighter, but he is much better than he is given credit for. he beat a lot of good men who all swear that their defeats were not fixed. I also think Carnera's poor reputation is due to the Bogart movie 'The harder they fall' where the fictional fighter Toro (who is based on Carnera) does have all his fights fixed. The myth that Max Baer 'killed' Ernie Shcaaf also originates from this movie. __________________________________________________
ScottInVa1760 ::: Favorites 2007-12-29 18:43:30 Imagine what a trainer like Lou Duva could've done with a giant like Carnera. __________________________________________________
burtwiseman ::: Favorites 2007-12-26 13:16:39 heltopo: I disagree with you about Carnera being a good fighter. Baer only toyed with him. Baer could have knocked him out in round 1 if he wanted to. Records show Carnera was set up by the mob. After the Baer fight most everyone destroyed poor primo. __________________________________________________
helltopo ::: Favorites 2007-12-24 10:11:46 Carnera was a much better fighter than people say. Much of his poor reputation comes from the fact all the knockdowns in this fight were edited together and shown as a comedy.. If you watch the whole fight, he is constantly troubling Baer with his jab & is far from the stumbling incompetent he is often remembered as. __________________________________________________
modica68 ::: Favorites 2007-12-23 20:44:40 primo carnera was one of the few european boxers to get the heavyweight title. thats earned him my respect, and it should of earned him your respect as well. not that he would care about our respect... but still __________________________________________________
jsa720 ::: Favorites 2007-12-11 16:23:32 Okay, I have no doubt that these guys are tougher than modern day boxers but the beginning of round 2 was one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen. __________________________________________________ |
